Digital Postcard Series: Cedar Waxwing Fighting For Attention

digital postcard #0004

Facts About Cedar Waxwing [Bombycilla cedrorum]
It is interesting to know that the name waxwing is not due to their slick appearance, but comes from the waxy red secretions found on the tips of the secondaries. The function of these tips is not yet known, but they may help to attract mates. Also, the Cedar Waxwing is one of the few North American birds which can survive for several months on fruit alone.

Geographical Location
Fairy Lake, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada [44°3'2"N 79°27'3"W].
